Darwin based but currently working in Dili, Leigh has previously worked in Timor-Leste, Indonesia and both urban and remote Aboriginal communities in Australia. Leigh is working hard to improve his basic Tetum and is a fluent speaker of Bahasa Indonesia and an accredited translator in the language.

He has extensive experience in humanitarian program administration, capacity building, education (curriculum development/administration), emergency services, disaster recovery, governance and community development.

Leigh holds post graduate qualifications in Asian Studies, Development and Education and has undertaken a wide range of training in International Aid and Humanitarian Action.

With Darwin only 700 km from Dili and a one hour flight away, the NT and Timor-Leste already have extensive community, business and inter governmental links with established friendship/ sister city links between Darwin and Dili.

A new Timor Leste Consulate recently opened in Darwin.
